Our dream was to write a book on the model number 2 Army. It was to have been authored by Ron Curtis, John Otteman and Roy Jinks. Some time in the near future I will not be able to maintain the web site. Hopefully the SWCA will take it over. Please check any model two you have in your collection and check against the database. My Dad just picked up a pinned and recessed S&W Model 29.44 Magnum. I can't recall the exact serial number, it's in the N820,000 range. I am told that S&W stopped pinning the barrels and recessing the chambers in 1983, and someone with an N540,000 series says there's is a 1980 production.I just can't believe S7W cranked out that many.44 Magnum wheelguns! Circa 1957 Smith & Wesson began assigning model numbers instead of names to their handguns, and the N-frames took up the range from Model 20 to Model 29 and ran over into the Model 50 range. Most people mentally associate N-frame Smith & Wessons with.44’s — first the.44 Special and then the awesomely powerful.44 Magnum. SMITH & WESSON 29-2 S SERIAL NUMBER. Smith And Wesson Model 29-2 Serial Numbers

Our Assessment: This is Smith & Wesson’s Model 29-2, built on the N-Frame with a square butt. With its 6 1/2″ barrel, this would make a great target revolver or hunting handgun for those who prefer a challenge. The revolver appears to have seen light use, retaining strong mechanics and a great bore, so this should still prove to be a great shooter. It’s also in high enough condition that Smith collectors will likely show interest. Please see our pictures and good luck!
